• About Us...

We have been church planting missionaries in Kenya since June of 1997, when we started deputation. We finished deputation and were on the field by April of 1999, when we started our ministry in Kenya.

Tonya and I share the blessing of coming from Christian homes and from families that are dedicated to the Lord’s work; and they are very supportive of us being on the mission field…

Luke and Tonya Shelby, We are the Shelby Family in Kenya, East Africa. We have been serving as Independent Baptist missionaries in Kenya since 1997.
  • About Us...

Shelby Family in Kenya, family picture from 2006.

I was saved in October of 1981, at the age of 7, while Tonya was saved under her dad’s preaching at the age of 15. I was called to preach when I was 16, and I surrendered to the mission field of Kenya the following year. Tonya also surrendered to be a missionary in her teen years. God allowed us to meet at Bethel Baptist College, which is a ministry of Bible Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Arkansas. We were married in July of 1995, and we have four children (Abigail, 8/11/96, Breanne, 8/20/97, Caleb, 11/25/00, and Kay-Leigh, 11/23/04).

  • About Us...

We completed Swahili language school in October 1999, worked with a veteran missionary until January 2001, when we moved to Kisii, Kenya where we continue to live. The Lord allowed us to start the South Nyanza Baptist College in mid-2001 and twenty-eight (28) churches, that are under national leadership since we moved to the Kisii region of Kenya. We are working with the pastors and laymen of these churches to evangelize our area by preaching in the markets, schools, and prisons.

The Lord has recently opened the door for us to move our home base to the city of Kisumu to help with Tonya's health condition, and we are very thankful that this new location still allows us to be a part of all of the ministries that the Lord has given us through our 25+ years in Kenya. And with this move, God is opening our eyes to even more doors that are open and waiting for us to walk through in the coming months and years ahead of our ministry in Kenya.
